Spinning Retaliation is the Boss of Stage 2.
Appearance[]
Spinning Retaliation is a gigantic helicopter gunship, notable for having contra-rotating rotor blades like a Russian Kamov helicopter. The helicopter's armed with two Mantis Cannon turrets, two fixed forward-firing Laser Cannons, and a Radial Cannon that's mounted on top of the rotor hub, in the device that looks like a radar. This boss's appearance can easily be drawn when putting two rulers on top of a narrow front highlighter as the two rotors.
Armaments[]
- These turrets track your Plane and fire in medium bursts of high-damaging gunfire. Each burst chain contains 22 projectiles.
Laser Module
- Mounted to the nose of the helicopter, it fires dual streams of laser bursts toward the bottom of the screen.
Recharging Radial Cannon
- Mounted atop the rotors, this weapon fires out a radial burst of bullets from the rotors. This weapon cannot be damaged nor destroyed by itself, and will emit a pale blue glow before discharging a bullet swarm. The cannon is part of the gunship's main body, meaning it can still attack while being open to obliteration. The bullet swarm is spread in 16 different directions, with 3 bullets in each direction. The weapon fires approximately every 15 seconds.
Combat Routine[]
Spinning Retaliation enters from the left, right by the cluster of Survivors. Upon entry, only the wing turrets can be damaged. The weapon patterns are now in reversed roles as the center weapon fires in linear, while the turrets on the wing track you. Although you can fly around the gunship, be cautious of the rotor's cannon firing suddenly so you may want to give a wide berth around it. Destroying the wing turrets will help reduce the amount of tracking gunfire on you and ease the pressure. Moving your Plane too much can cause the turrets to spray lines of bullets and quickly cram the screen.
Once the 2 sets of weapons are stripped, the gunship can be obliterated -- but beware, the Recharging Radial Cannon is still active and can be dangerous to attack at point-blank if you're unsure. It can only be destroyed together with the gunship.
Difficulty[]
In tougher Difficulties, the fight will be saturated with more enemy bullets, along with more tracking gunfire on you. The damage from the spread-fire cannon inflicts the highest damage and should be evaded with caution.
Also, the boss appears earlier in the higher difficulty, making rescuing bunch of survivors in the helipad a bit challenging.
