Quattropus is the Boss of Stage B1. It is one of four Sky Force Bosses operated by a mysterious sentient AI.
Appearance[]
Quattropus, as its name implies, is a flying drone with four long arms that resembles a mini version of Omega. The arms are tipped by sawblades that are seen in the first parts of the Stage.
Armaments[]
1st Phase[]
Central Core
- The area of control where intelligent machines manage the operation and combat routine of Quattropus. The core is invulnerable until all blue pods are casted out.
4x Sawblade Pods
- Exact replicas of the Sawblade Drones seen as guarding walls throughout the Stage, one mounted at the tip of each of the four arms. They are invulnerable throughout the fight and can cause serious damage to your Plane upon contact.
16x Electric Pods
- Resemble Omega's engines except they are not armed with any weapon. Four on each arm, they are to be destroyed before you can take off the central core. They can collide with the Plane to deal massive damage.
2nd Phase[]
4x Dual Laser beam
- Similar to that of type III Laser Turrets, the dual laser modules fire high damage red beams in alternating patterns with two opposite lasers active at a time.
Combat Routine[]
Uniquely, Quattropus's entrance is done via a portal, which appears in the center of the screen and the giant drone shoots out.
The first part of the battle is easy where you are to destroy the Electric Pods mounted on the four arms of Quattropus. Be careful while doing this as you can accidentally hit the sawblades on the edges of the arms. During this part, you cannot directly destroy the central core as there is a force field protecting it. In the bottom-right corner, there is a blind spot that the sawblades cannot hit you, nor the Electric Pods, therefore, you can hit all of the Pods without taking much risk. The swinging arms follow the exact pattern every playthrough: swinging at high speed and sometimes stopping or changing direction in between.
After all the Electric Pods are cast out, the core is open to obliteration. There will be a short window for dealing damage before the lasers start shooting. Be aware of the lasers which as mentioned, fire in two directions at a time and are powerful enough to destroy your Plane in mere hits. After the core is taken down, the Stage ends with Quattropus disappearing back into its portal and teleporting away.
Difficulty[]
This Boss is fairly easy like Twisted Vengeance and does not really have additional negative factors in higher Difficulty levels. Note that the drone will spin faster in tougher Difficulty modes, cramping your evasion space even more.
Trivia[]
- Quattropus is the first boss of a bonus Stage and similar to Armored Dock Platform from Stage 9 and Lewiatan from Stage B3, it does not have a trophy.
- The scrolling speed of the screen increase dramatically during the fight, but this is just for visual purposes and does not have any effect.
- This is the second boss to be able to escape the obliteration phase, along with the Omega boss.
