Spinning Laser Turrets are stationary tower enemies that rotate and discharge three laser streams in different directions, resulting in spiraling patterns. They do not target the player's Plane directly.

Appearance[]

Spinning Laser Turrets have a triangular armament with rounded corners, with each side featuring a "barrel" angled upward. This Turret appears identical to a Spinning Cannon Turret, except without the wires at its rear.

The default variant has a mostly light yellow paint while the Stage 13 variant is white instead. Despite this, functionally, there appear to be no difference among the two.

Behavior[]

General[]

Spinning Laser Turrets are stationary turrets fixed to their tower. As a tower enemy, they also have noticeably more health compared to some other enemies and when damaged, a red health bar appears above the armament, which fades after a few moments of the Turret being left intact.

Spinning Laser Turrets cannot be collided with; the Plane simply flies past them.

Spinning Laser Turrets rarely drop Health Restore items upon destruction.

Armament[]

The armament of the Spinning Laser Turret continuously rotates while discharging long laser streams, creating a spiraling pattern around itself. The length of the streams varies with each Turret . It has a short reload time between each discharge, and a slightly longer reload after every sixth discharge. The firing direction is independent on the player's location, and thus the Turret cannot be distracted by the Holo Granny Technician using its decoys.

A Spinning Laser Turret in action (Nightmare difficulty)

Similar to normal type I Laser Turrets, each laser stream is made up of multiple particles that although deals negligible damage individually, can result in heavy damage if the whole stream hits. The projectiles disappear after traveling far enough. Unlike most enemies, its damage does not increase with higher Difficulty levels. Each particle is a white line with blue glow, though it is cross-shaped instead on Stage 13.

These projectiles are designed to only damage the Plane and therefore will harmlessly phasing through other enemies. However, they can be absorbed by Energy Shields, destroyed by Mega Bombs and Iron Clad's Main Weapon Supercharge shockwaves, and slowed by Slo Mo Chan's ability.

Strategy[]

  • Most variants of the Spinning Laser Turret fire longer streams, which can be difficult to dodge on higher Difficulty levels thanks to their faster fire rate. If you are going for the Stay Untouched medal, it is best to destroy the Turrets as soon as they appear, preferably by charging the Main Weapon Supercharge module in advance.
  • Equipping the Slo Mo Chan Technician can help creating larger gaps between the laser streams, allowing for safer evasion.

Trivia[]

The second phase of the Canned Dread also uses a Spinning Laser Turret armament. This one changes its spinning direction after a while, while the normal Turrets do not.
