SAM Turrets are stationary turret enemies that launch a pair of high accuracy homing missiles, targeting the player's Plane directly.

Appearance[]

SAM Turrets are positioned on a light gray platform, in the shape of a rounded square. On each side is a small slant component that acts as base support.

The armament is mostly similar to a type I AA Gun Turrets and identical to those on SAM Battle Tanks, featuring a red shield with vertical indentations and three raised sections at the top edge. which presumably protects its rear compartments from damage. At the front is four short white barrels arranged into two columns.

Behavior[]

General[]

SAM Turrets are mounted on their platforms and therefore are stationary enemies. A red health bar is displayed above the armament when damage is dealt to it and fades after being left intact for a while. When destroyed, they have a low chance of dropping Health Restore items.

SAM Turrets cannot be collided with; the Plane simply flies past them.

Armament[]

SAM Turrets target the Plane directly or active decoys placed by the Holo Granny Technician instead, consistently launching a pair of homing missiles that slowly separate as they travel. This fire rate is shortened as the difficulty level increases, along with the turret's health and damage.

The missiles follow the Plane or active decoys with good accuracy, moderate speed and deal moderate damage on contact only with the Plane. They appear red and black in color and leaves behind long white trails of smoke. Similar to most projectiles, they can be slowed by having the Slo Mo Chan Technician equipped, absorbed by active Energy Shields and destroyed by Mega Bombs or Iron Clad's Main Weapon Supercharge shockwaves.

On Stage B1, several SAM Turrets are seen hanging from a wall and therefore can only fire at a limited angle.

Strategy[]

  • The missiles can be avoided relatively easily using these methods:
    • Staying near the SAM Turret and dodging around it, as the missiles slowly separate and are harder to dodge at far distance.
    • Quickly circling the Plane to the missiles' rear to exploit their inability to make acute turns.
    • As the missiles separate and re-converge at far distance, they create a safe gap that the Plane can squeeze through. However, this method requires the Plane to remain stationary and vulnerable to other enemy attacks.
  • It is advisable to destroy any SAM Turret quickly with the help of the Main Weapon Supercharge ability, as their high fire rate and tracking missiles can be problematic when left intact.

Trivia[]

During the opening scene of the Prologue Stage, a SAM Turret can be seen with a blue paint job.
