Missile Patrol Boats are enemies which launch a trio of homing missiles at the player's Plane at once. They are exclusive to Stage 9.
Appearance[]
Missile Patrol Boats appear as a small cruiser, with a mostly black paint job and a red paint job at the bow and stern portside. At the top, in the middle of the Boat is a SAM launcher with three barrels, supported by a rotatable frame.
Behavior[]
General[]
Missile Patrol Boats are always seen slowly sailing in a straight direction, not even stopping when destroyed. As a result, they may escape off-screen if left intact and ruin any active Chain Bonus.
Missile Patrol Boats cannot be collided with; the Plane simply flies past them.
Missile Patrol Boats rarely drop Health Restore items upon destruction. Their wreckages sink underwater after staying afloat for a short time.
Armament[]
Missile Patrol Boats target the player directly, launching a trio of homing missiles each with decent accuracy, moderate speed and heavy damage on contact with the Plane. As they are launched almost at the same time, the missiles often clump up and are able to destroy all Plane types with their accumulated damage. The missiles are mostly black with some red colors, producing white thrusts and trails. Missile Patrol Boats launch two successive volleys before reloading for a long time, which shortens as the difficulty level increases, along with the Boats' health and damage.
Similar to most enemies, Missile Patrol Boats and their missiles are distracted by the Holo Granny Technician by wasting time to target any active decoys instead of the Plane.
These missiles only damage the Plane (and phase through other enemies) and cannot be destroyed by its projectiles and Laser power-up. However, it can be absorbed by Energy Shields, destroyed by Mega Bombs and Iron Clad's Main Weapon Supercharge shockwaves, and slowed by Slo Mo Chan's ability.
Strategy[]
- Missile Patrol Boats and their damage should not be underestimated. Destroying them quickly is wise, as they only appear in group of three which can be tough to deal with if left intact.
Trivia[]
- Missile Patrol Boats appear exactly the same as their Sky Force Anniversary counterpart. The old version doesn't sink when destroyed, however.
- Missile Patrol Boats use the same missile type as Red Helicopter Gunships and SAM Battle Tanks, bearing the same appearance, damage and accuracy.
- Missile Patrol Boats are relatively powerful enemies but for some reason, their destructions reward low scores and only two Stars on Normal difficulty.
