Heavy Cannonball Turrets are stationary turret enemies that fire volleys of three successive high-speed cannonballs at the player's Plane, usually destroying it in one hit. They are exclusive to Stage B3.
Appearance[]
Heavy Cannonball Turrets are positioned on a light gray platform in the shape of a rounded square, with a pair of parallel long red neon lights on opposite sides. On each of the four sides is a small slant component that acts as base support.
The armament is mostly gray, featuring a circular body with red patterns on each side, a single sizeable barrel and a pair of arched wires that connect the rear of the body with its top.
Behavior[]
General[]
Heavy Cannonball Turrets are mounted on their platforms and therefore are stationary enemies. A red health bar is displayed above the armament when damage is dealt to it and fades after being left intact for a while. When destroyed, they have a low chance of dropping Health Restore items.
Heavy Cannonball Turrets cannot be collided with; the Plane simply flies past them.
Armament[]
Heavy Cannonball Turrets target the Plane directly or active decoys placed by the Holo Granny Technician instead, firing a volley of three successive cannonball projectiles before a reloading duration. The fire rate and reload time is shortened as the difficulty level increases, along with the Turret's health and damage.
The cannonballs function nearly identical to the projectiles used by Dual Energized Railgun Turrets and Energized Spider Railguns; they travel at high velocity (slightly slower than Energized Railgun shells) and with one hit can deal sufficient damage to destroy most Planes or destroy any active Energy Shields. The cannonball appears as a black orb that leaves behind a medium flaming trail.
Similar to most projectiles, the cannonballs can be slowed by having the Slo Mo Chan Technician equipped and destroyed by Mega Bombs or Iron Clad's Main Weapon Supercharge shockwaves.
Strategy[]
- Make fast but short movements with the right timing to evade the cannonballs with ease. Moving the Plane too much carry the risk of flying into other incoming enemy fire.
- Destroy any Heavy Cannonball Turret quickly using the Main Weapon Supercharge ability and memorization of its appearing location, as the fast projectile speed and very high damage make them highly dangerous, especially when there are other surrounding enemies.
- Count the number of fired cannonballs to predict when the Heavy Cannonball Turret would reload, then take advantage of those reloading periods to deal burst damage with the use of the Main Weapon Supercharge ability.
Trivia[]
The Boss of the same stage, Lewiatan, uses up to eleven Heavy Cannonball Turrets during its final phase.
