Gatling Tanks are tough tank enemies which fire streams of projectiles at the player's Plane. They are exclusive to Stage 10.
Appearance[]
Gatling Tanks share a similar design to Battle Tanks, only with a mostly red chassis and a black spinning multiple-barrel turret. The turret turns to aim at the player as it fires.
Behavior[]
General[]
Gatling Tanks move at a slow speed, only stopping if either they reached a scripted destination or their cannon is destroyed. For this reason, Gatling Tanks may escape off-screen.
As a tank enemy, to fully destroy a Gatling Tank, the player must destroy its cannon (which disarms the Tank) and then its chassis separately. Leaving the chassis intact resulting in a Chain Loss when flying past it. Comparing to Battle Tanks, they are more well-armored.
Gatling Tanks cannot be collided with; the Plane simply flies past them.
Gatling Tanks rarely drop Health Restore items upon destruction.[verification needed]
Armament[]
Gatling Tanks target the player directly, firing short streams of five projectiles, each of which travels at moderate speed and deals moderate damage on contact. The projectiles are white with a pink outline. Normally, Gatling Tanks reload for a short time after firing three streams, but the final one on Stage 10 only reloads after the fourth streams. Gatling Tanks shoot faster on higher difficulty levels and may create a long continuous stream, deal more damage and can sustain more hits.
Similar to most enemies, Gatling Tanks are distracted by the Holo Granny Technician by wasting time to shoot at any active decoys instead of the Plane.
These projectiles only damage the Plane (and phase through other enemies) and cannot be destroyed by its projectiles and Laser power-up. However, it can be absorbed by Energy Shields, destroyed by Mega Bombs and Iron Clad's Main Weapon Supercharge shockwaves, and slowed by Slo Mo Chan's ability.
Strategy[]
- Stray from moving the Plane too much when encountering them, otherwise they would spray their projectiles everywhere all over the screen.
- Consider prioritize them and destroy them quickly, due to their ability to fire long streams of bullets and high damage potential.
Trivia[]
- Gatling Tanks appear quite similar to their Sky Force Anniversary counterpart, although with a different turret design.
- Gatling Tanks and SAM Battle Tanks not only share the same paint job but also are both exclusive to Stage 10.
