Flamethrower Turrets are stationary turret enemies that attack by spraying long streams of flame directly at the player's Plane. They are exclusive to Stage 6.

Appearance[]

The Flamethrower Turret appears as a gray cylindrical horizontal tank with a smaller cylinder attached and black band in the middle, the latter having a warning symbol on it. An army green plate of metal is attached to the front, presumably serving as a protective shield. A metal tube is extended from each side of the tank and attached to a short barrel with many holes and bright jet fire, forming the Turret's twin-barrel armament.

Behavior[]

General[]

Flamethrower Turrets are stationary enemies. A red health bar is displayed above the armament when damage is dealt to it and fades after being left intact for a while. When destroyed, they have a low chance of dropping Health Restore items.

The Plane cannot collide with Flamethrower Turrets, it simply passes through them instead.

Armament[]

Flamethrower Turrets target the Plane directly but prioritize any active decoys placed by the Holo Granny Technician instead, spraying a long stream of fire that drain half of the Plane's health if hit by it whole. Between each stream is a long attack cooldown, which shortens along with higher Difficulty levels.

The flame stream is in reality made of multiple single projectiles (approximately 60[need verification]), which travel at fast speed and each dealing negligible damage, making sizzling sounds on contact with the Plane. Each projectile also appears as a rotating cloud that slowly expands and gradually changes color from blue, then yellow and finally red before disappearing. The Turret has a limited range, which can be further shortened by equipping the Slo Mo Chan Techinician.

The flame only damages the Plane while harmlessly phasing through other enemies. Each particle can be absorbed by Energy Shields, annihilated by either Mega Bombs or Iron Clad's Main Weapon Supercharge shockwaves, and slowed by Slo Mo Chan's ability.

Strategy[]

  • Avoid moving the Plane too much when fighting Flamethrower Turrets, otherwise they will spray the flame everywhere in an attempt to hit the Plane and making evasion impossible. Though the damage is very low, it can ruin "Stay Untouched" or perfect playthroughs.
  • Player can take advantage of the Flamethrower Turret's low health to burst it down quickly using one or two Main Weapon Supercharge bursts before it attacks back, ideally by studying their appearing locations and position the Plane there in advance.

Trivia[]

  • Often, Flamethrower Turrets can be inaccurate by aiming higher up than they should be and missing the Plane entirely. This can free up the player's worries of dodging them while rescuing survivors or charging from Power-up dispensers. This behavior is less noticeable if the Plane is aligned vertically with the Turret.
  • Stage 9's Armored Dock Platform Boss also uses flamethrower armaments during its second phase, which function similarly.
  • The behavior of the Flamethrower Turret is comparable to a Laser Spider, which also attacks the Plane directly using long streams made of multiple low-damaging particles.
