Not to be confused with other types of tanks enemies.

Battle Tanks are often mobile enemies which fire slow projectiles at the player's Plane, at a quick rate.

Appearance[]

Battle Tanks has a square chassis, a long gray cannon on top and two black caterpillar treads. When in motion, their treads each leave behind a long trail of white smoke. The cannon turns to aim at the player as it fires.

Battle Tanks have two color variations which apply to their chassis: yellow and light blue.

Behavior[]

General[]

Despite having two color variations, both types function exactly the same.

Battle Tanks can be either stationary or mobile. If it is the latter, Battle Tanks move at a slow speed, only stopping if either they reached a scripted destination or their cannon is destroyed. For this reason, Battle Tanks may escape off-screen. On Stage 10, there are Battle Tanks that despite being stationary, are carried along the trains they are on.

To fully destroy a Battle Tank, the player must destroy its cannon (which disarms the Tank) and then its chassis separately. Leaving the chassis intact resulting in a Chain Loss when it leaves the screen.

Battle Tanks cannot be collided with; the Plane simply flies past them.

Battle Tanks rarely drop Health Restore items upon destruction. On Stage 11, uniquely, a group of Battle Tanks may have glowing ones among them, which will drop Weapon Upgrade items that increase the player's Plane fire rate.

Armament[]

Battle Tanks target the player directly, fire a generic and slow projectile at a quick constant rate, which deals low damage on contact. It flickers between the color of blue and purple, and leaves behind a faint blue trail. Battle Tanks shoot faster on higher difficulty levels, deal more damage and can sustain more hits.

On Stage 1, Battle Tanks fire at a quicker rate, but take time to reload after every fifth shot.

Similar to most enemies, Battle Tanks are distracted by the Holo Granny Technician by wasting time to shoot at any active decoys instead of the Plane.

The projectiles only damage the Plane (and phase through other enemies) and cannot be destroyed by its projectiles and Laser power-up. However, it can be absorbed by Energy Shields, destroyed by Mega Bombs and Iron Clad's Main Weapon Supercharge shockwaves, and slowed by Slo Mo Chan's ability.

Strategy[]

  • Battle Tanks have relatively low health. Therefore, a single burst of the MWS module often destroy both the cannon and the chassis at once.
  • Since Battle Tanks fire unguided projectiles, little movement is sufficient to evade them. On the other hand, moving the Plane too much causes the Tanks to spray their bullets everywhere thanks to their fast fire rate while having the risk of being hit by other enemies.

Trivia[]

Battle Tanks are the first enemy to both fire projectiles and target the player directly.
