Anti-Aircraft Gun Turrets are a type of multiple common gun turret enemies that fire basic straight-flying projectiles at the player's Plane.

Appearance[]

AA Gun Turrets are positioned on a light gray platform, in the shape of a square with blunt corners. On each side is a small slant component that acts as base support.

The armament of the AA Gun Turret feature a metal shield out front to protect its components, as well as one or two turret barrels that point at the player as they attack. Most AA Gun Turrets are mainly light blue in color, except on Stage 8 where the type I variations are yellow (no change in behavior, however). AA Gun Turrets have two different designs:

Type I[]

The shield has more indentation compared to the other types and has three raised section at the top edge. It has two white barrels and its rear compartment also presumably shows two modules.

Other types[]

The shield is smoother, divided into two down the middle and features a Scarlett Mantis's symbol on its top right. Its single barrel is white with a blue band at the end.

Behavior[]

General[]

AA Gun Turrets are mounted on their platforms and therefore are stationary enemies. When destroyed, they have a low chance of dropping Health Restore items.

AA Gun Turrets cannot be collided with; the Plane simply flies past them.

Armament[]

AA Gun Turrets use a single type of projectiles traveling in straight trajectories, though it varies among different types along with firing patterns, speed, damage and projectile shapes. Their fire rate, health and damage increase with higher difficulty levels.

AA Gun Turrets face toward the player's Plane and shoot directly at it. Similar to other tracking enemies, AA Gun Turrets are distracted by the Holo Granny Technician by wasting time to shoot at any active decoys instead of the Plane.

These projectiles are designed to only damage the Plane while harmlessly phasing through other enemies. They can be absorbed by Energy Shields, annihilated by Mega Bombs and Iron Clad's Main Weapon Supercharge shockwaves, and slowed by Slo Mo Chan's ability.

Type I[]

Shoots a pair of slow projectiles at once, four times before a slow reload. The projectiles each travel at average speed, deals light damage and appears white in color with light blue smoke-like trail.

In Stage B1, despite no apparent difference, some AA Gun Turrets are mounted on a wall, which limits their firing range to certain angles (they cannot shoot at the Plane if it is near the edge of the screen).

This variation can be seen on Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, Stage 5, Stage 6, Stage 8, Stage 11, Stage B1 and some Tournament Stages.

Type II[]

Fires three volleys back to back before reloading, with each volley comprising three projectiles discharged in rapid succession. Every projectile moves at a moderate pace, inflicts light damage (same as type I), and alternates between blue and purple hues, casting a subtle blue trail as it travels.

Type II AA Gun Turrets in action (Nightmare difficulty).

This variation can be seen on Stage 2, Stage 7, Stage 8, Stage 9 and some Tournament Stages.

Type III[]

Fires single projectiles at a quick constant rate. The projectiles each travels slowly, deals light damage (slightly more than type I and II) and appears white in color with light blue smoke-like trail.

This variation can be seen on Stage 3 and some Tournament Stages.

Type IV[]

Fires three successive projectiles before a slow reload. Each of these travels slowly, deal low damage (twice as much as type II), appears as a hook in shape and purple in color.

This variation is unique to Stage 10.

Strategy[]

  • As these AA Gun Turrets have a fast fire rate, moving the Plane too much can cause them to spray bullets everywhere in an attempt to hit the player. In contrast, try to move the Plane very slowly and take advantage of the gaps between each slow projectiles to precisely navigate through them.
  • Type II variations have a faster projectile speed pair with quicker fire rate, so take them out quickly to prevent them from cramming the screen with bullets, ideally by studying their appearing locations beforehand and burst them down before they can attack too much.
  • Excluding type II, the slow projectile speed, low damage and low health of the other types make these Turrets easy to deal with when evading carefully. Players can take care of other more dangerous enemies before finishing the Turrets later, which can typically be destroyed with only one Main Weapon Supercharge burst.

Trivia[]

  • Type I of AA Gun Turrets is the first stationary turret enemy to be introduced.
  • Type I of AA Gun Turrets also resembles a SAM Turret, the latter of which has a red shield and four total barrels instead.
  • One of the Tournament Stages features a group of many AA Gun Turret types arranged into a grid, none of which aims at the player but straight downward instead.
  • In Stage 1 is a type I AA Turret which, when destroyed, will set the tree besides it on fire.
